Varkala is full of surfing schools that take you to different amazing beaches with warm sea and beautiful waves. Best season is November to March.
Bodysurfing is a fun way to play with the waves without the need for the board.
There are dozens of amazing restaurants and cafes lined up on the cliff with spectacular sea views and sunsets where you can enjoy all kinds of foods, ranging from western and continental, across Indian and Tibetan to Thai and Chinese.
All these places are just minutes walking from our property.
Some of them have live music, DJs and dance events.
In just an hour or two drive from our resort you can reach spectacular nature reserves and activities that will leave you breathless and in a space of serenity and peace.
Among the most visited are backwaters, canals, lakes and mangroves that you can explore with a kayak or a wooden boat manned by a local guide.
We absolutely recommend the visit to Palaruvi Waterfalls where you can dip in the lake under the waterfall and be immersed in the sheer force of nature.
At Varkala beach we have a 2.000-year old Sri Janardanaswamy Temple that is considered the southern Varanasi and is one of the epicentres of Hindu religion in this part of India.
Another impressive and important place less than an hour from BAVA Beach Resort is Jatayu Earth Center with the enormous sculpture of Jatayu eagle and a temple dedicated to Ram since the top of this mountain where Ram left his footprint in the rock and where Jatayu ascended into liberation.
Varkala’s 25-30 meter high red laterite cliff is unique as it is a blueprint of geological changes from the Mio Pliocene age, which is 1.3 to 25 million years ago. It is the only place in Kerala where cliffs reach directly into the sea and offer a spectacular backdrop for the wide sandy beach at the bottom.
